PELE Football Club’s dream run in the STAG Elite League continued last evening when they overcame Monedderlust 3-0 at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground. It was a one-sided affair throughout the 90 minutes, with Pele FC dominating the game. Travis ‘Zorro’ Grant handed the league’s leading club the perfect start when he netted just 45 seconds into

the game, scoring from point blank range.
The Berbicians immediately got defensive while Pele continued to attack after sensing the inferior defence placed by coach Gordon ‘Ultimate Warrior’ Braithwaite.
The focus for the team from the Ancient County was placed on Pele and the league’s leading goalscorer Gregory ‘Jackie Chan’ Richardson who played the role of a facilitator in an effort to get his teammates involved in the match.
However, Richardson tested Monedderlust goalkeeper when he latched onto a pass from Grant but the Berbice club custodian made a great save to deny the striker.
Not to be denied, poor defending by Monedderlust in the 31st minute saw Richardson unmarked just outside the 18 yards area and the forward buried his right-footed volley flat and hard to the goalkeeper’s far right.
Attacking the North Road goal, Monedderlust found it difficult to get around Pele’s sturdy defence and the half ended with the club trailing 2-0.
In the second stanza, Pele continued their hunt for more goals and despite their near-chances, the club found one in the 81st minute when Darren Harris connected from just inside the penalty area.
It was another ‘vintage’ Gregory Richardson performance who pushed his goal tally in the league to six from as many matches; the most by any player in the STAG Elite League. Alpha United’s Delon Lanferman is behind with five goals.
Pele FC’s 13 goals are the most scored by a team in the league; Alpha United’s are second with nine goals.
Up next for Pele is a clash against the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) on Sunday at the GDF’s Base Camp Ayanganna ground.
Meanwhile, up to press time, the score was nil between Fruta Conquerors and GFC.
