LEON Johnson’s XI led Hetmyer’s XI by 197 runs going into the final day of the Professional Cricket League’s (PCL) four-day practice match currently being contested at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground, Bourda. They still have a firm handle on the match despite Kevin Boodie turning in a solid 130 to help his side put up some resistance. His knock which was laced with 13 fours and three sixes was instrumental in the 272 posted in reply to Johnson XI’s 344.
Only Barbadian Javon Searles with 28 supported the West Indies U-19 batsman down the order as the lower order crumbled quite quickly after Searles departed.
Hetmyer’s XI resumed the day on 140-6 with Boodie overnight on 41.
Johnson’s XI began their second innings with a 72-run lead and piled on 125-3 in 42 overs as the day wrapped up with Shivnarine Chanderpaul (14) and the centurion Vishaul Singh (4) overnight in the middle.
Tagenarine Chanderpaul (2) and Johnson (21) were removed cheaply at the top of the order but Assad Fudadin piled on the pressure with an impressive 82 before he carelessly threw away his wicket.
Fudadin took 24 off Steven Sankar in the 34th over with clean wind-assisted shots then challenged Johnson at long off in the 36th over but failed with six overs left in the day which brought Singh to the middle.
The final day is scheduled to bowl off at 09:00hrs.
