OVERSEAS-based cyclists Raynauth `Obeahman’ Jeffrey struck form yesterday, ahead of today’s much anticipated Mohamed Kadir Memorial 80-mile cycle road race.Jeffrey returned a time of one hour 17 minutes 01.99 seconds in winning the 11th Annual Hand-in-Hand feature 35-lap cycle race which was opened to schoolboys, novices and invitational riders.
From the outset of the feature event yesterday, Jeffrey made his intention known by surging ahead of the 23 other starters and was never challenged and after 17 laps he lapped the entire field to win comfortably. In the process, he also won six of the eight prime prizes that were up for grabs.
The other two prime prizes were won by sixth place finisher Stephano Husbands and Jamaul John.
The other top four places in the feature event were occupied by Hamza Eastman, Raul Leal, Junior Niles and Horace Burrowes respectively.
Jeffrey who is currently based in the United States training and competing recently completed a two-week training stint in Colombia and showed tremendous form yesterday.
Also showing form yesterday was Eastman who placed second and is also currently based in the United Stated.
Notable absentees from yesterday’s feature event were United States-based Geron Williams and Alanzo Greaves who will both be in the `Ounce of Gold’ race today and this will make for interesting riding.
In other results from yesterday’s programme which was organised by national cycle coach Hassan Mohamed, Jamaul John won the 10-lap race for juveniles ahead of Raphael Leung and Christopher Griffith respectively, while Shane Bourne won the five-lap race for mountain bikers. Second was Marcus Keiler and third was Seon Budhan.
John Niles won the two-lap race for BMX boys 6-9 years old ahead of Christopher Goring and Alexander Leung respectively.
The BMX boys 9-12 years old three-lap race was won by Goring. Second was Shane Sue-Hang.
Adelui Hodge won the three-lap race for BMX boys 12-14 years old ahead of Jonathan Jagdeo and Turan Garbaran respectively.
Hand-in-Hand supervisor Savita Singh assisted with the presentation of prizes to the respective winners and thanked Mohamed for once again organising the event which she said was successful.
