JUSTICE Navindra Singh yesterday began taking evidence in the murder trial of Andrew Albert who allegedly murdered Nandalall Bopat, called Lloydy, on August 10, 2010

Attorney-at-law Mr. George Thomas is defending.Prosecutrix Miss Leandra who delivered the opening address to the jury told them that on the 10th of August 2010, Nandalall Bopat, the deceased, left his home at De Groot around 12 o’ clock to charge his phone.
Shortly after his grandson Salim Amin left the home to buy chicken.
Miss Leandra told the jury that they would hear from Salim that he was in a car when he saw Andrew Albert at Culvert Corner with his grandfather.
At the time the accused had a knife in his hand and the other hand behind the deceased’s neck.
“Salim will tell you that he went to tell his grandmother and when he returned, the accused was still holding his grandfather and he observed blood coming down from his grandfather’s side, back and shoulder and some white thing coming out of his grandfather’s side.”
The grandfather was taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he died on the 13th of August, 2010.
A post-mortem examination was done on the body and the cause of death was given as perforation of the spleen and blood vessels due to stab wounds .
The hearing continues this afternoon.
