REGION 2 Democratic Councillor Mr Brian Basil Persaud is calling on the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) to set up a fire tender boat in the Pomeroon river to provide services to residents in the Upper and Lower Pomeroon river communities in the event of fire.Speaking at a recent statutory meeting of the Council, Persaud said the banks of the Pomeroon river are populated with hundreds of farmers who source their electricity supplies from large generators, and the Guyana Fire Service has no fire tender boat to offer assistance to residents in event of fire.
The councillor pointed out that fire service officers also need to visit the Pomeroon river communities and conduct inspections on homes, businesses, sawmills and processing operations, to insure that fire safety measures are in place when generators are being used.
