THE Executive Committee of the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) held a fruitful meeting with Director of Sport Christopher Jones recently. The meeting was centrally geared to discuss plans and projects of the association in view of seeking the Director’s support for the initiatives of the GTTA as well as to get his inputs to align the association’s plans and programmes where possible
Jones alluded to the fact that he was very enthused by some of the developmental projects outlined by the GTTA and would be giving support to ensure that the sport grows.
He indicated that he would like to see a focus on developmental plans of the respective association.
The meeting is the first of several he is expected to have with national federations to get more insight into their plans, programmes and projections for the respective sports.
Among one of the major things discussed was the proposal for a high-level Chinese coach/player through diplomatic channels. The GTTA is hoping that a high-level coach/player will visit Guyana on a one- or two-year stint here to boost our national elite programmes
Among other matters discussed were plans for the development of a national sports structure, land/home for table tennis and a National table tennis schools programme.
