THE joint effort to assist less fortunate students in the Ancient County between the cricket teams of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC) and the Community Outreach Department of the Guyana Police Force ‘B’ Division continues to bear results. The RHTYSC last Tuesday handed over $200 000 worth of footwear, schoolbags and educational material to the Police Force for distribution to less fortunate students.
The Club handed over a total of 80 pairs of footwear (35 females/45 males) along with 40 schoolbags filled with educational supplies.
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster who is spearheading the co-effort with ‘B’ Division Community Officer Assistant Superintendent Alistair Roberts stated that the funds will be raised via corn house at the Port Mourant Turf Club.
The cricket teams and the Police Force in March 2014 joined hands to launch a ‘Say No To Crime, Suicide, Drugs and Say Yes To Education and Sports Campaign’, directed towards youths in Berbice.
The campaign to date had included sharing out of $300 000 worth of sports gear to schools and clubs, distribution of $200 000 worth of schoolbags in July, the hosting of a massive school rally and march involving 1 000 students, sport competition, information booklets, posters, banners and donation to the Rose Hall Town Police Outpost among others.
The main aims of the young cricketers and the Police Force are to get youths to stay in school to obtain an educational background and to get involves in sports while rejecting Satan and his evil world of drugs, crime and suicide.
Meanwhile, the two organisations last Sunday also made a donation to the New Amsterdam (NA) Public Hospital.
The donation consisted of 100 medical scrubs, which would be used by doctors and other medical staff in fulfilling their duties.
Both Foster and Assistant Supt Roberts stated that their organisations were committed to improving the lives of every Berbician and the donations were geared towards that.
Mr Colin Bynoe, CEO of the Hospital and Dr Vishalya Sharma received the donation and expressed gratitude to both organisations.
