Winner of the Sydroy Nedd Memorial Football 7-a-side tourney to be decided this evening

THE winning team of the Sydroy Nedd Memorial seven-a-side football tournament will be decided this evening at the Den Amstel Community Centre ground, West Coast Demerara.The tournament, which is being coordinated by former national coach and captain Lennox Arthur and sponsored by Nedd’s family members, is held in honour of Nedd’s 60th birth anniversary.
In tonight’s first quarter-final, Grove will tackle Wales from 16:00hrs while Sara Lodge face Pouderoyen in the next fixture from 16:30hrs.
Goed Fortuin will then meet Uitvlugt from 17:00hrs and Stewartville take on home team Den Amstel from 17:30hrs in the last match of the quarter-finals.
From 18:00hrs, the winner of the Wales versus Grove encounter will meet the winner of the Goed Fortuin versus Uitvlugt affair in the first semi-final, while the winner of the Sara Lodge versus Pouderoyen match will meet the winner of the Stewartville versus Den Amstel match in the second semi-final.
The third-place play-off will be played before the final.
Arthur, however, said prior to the final, there will be a game between West Demerara’s masters and their counterparts from Georgetown.
Nedd was a former president of the West Demerara Football Association and the Uitvlugt FC and he died four years ago after a brief illness.
He was also Office manager of the Guyana Football Federation and Assistant coordinator of the Mayor’s Cup Organising Committee.
Over $200 000 in cash prizes as well as trophies will be up for grabs with the winning team receiving $100 000. The second-, third- and fourth-place teams will earn $50 000, $30 000 and $20 000 respectively. All four teams will also receive trophies.
