THE police will today receive advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions regarding the charge against 23- year-old Oswald Yaw, also known as Junior, who reportedly confessed to being hired to murder block-maker Nathan Persaud in his home one week ago.Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum confirmed yesterday to the Guyana Chronicle that the police investigators working on the case are closing off the probe and will be sending the file to the DPP today.
This publication visited the community yesterday where the young man has been living for the past few months but residents would not share any information on him.
However, persons said that the man recently moved to the area after returning from Barbados. One man said that the alleged hitman did not mix often with persons in the area and was not seen much in the community.
On Tuesday evening the police picked Yaw up at a location in the city after staking out the area on the basis of intelligence.
He reportedly told the police that he murdered the man after he was instructed to do so by the block-maker’s reputed wife, following their property dispute. The alleged hitman detailed to the police how the plan was hatched and how the payment arrangement was to be worked out between him and the woman who hired him.
He admitted that he was to be paid on a hire purchase basis for the crime since the woman did not have all the money immediately and he was to receive installments of $100,000 monthly.
The man had wanted the money to travel to Antigua to visit his girlfriend. The overall price tag for the hit was settled at $1.7 million.
Nathan Persaud was laid to rest on Monday while his wife who reportedly admitted to hiring a hitman to murder him was charged and remanded to prison on Monday also.
The dead man’s mother on Sunday said that what her daughter-in-law did was very heartbreaking as she treated the woman like one of her own children. The woman’s son had expressed disgust at the role his mother played in murdering his father, saying that it was a very, very messed up move by the woman.
