3 critical after West Bank smash-up

THREE persons are in critical condition following a three-vehicle smash-up on the West Bank Demerara Wednesday night.Minutes after 21:00 hrs a Tacoma truck slammed into an AE91 car on the Schoonord Village Public Road, West Bank Demerara. The collision resulted in another crash with an Avensis vehicle, leaving several persons severely injured. IMG-20150916-WA0017
According to eyewitnesses and a police officer on the scene, the AE91 vehicle was approaching from the southern direction when it was confronted by the Tacoma and two speeding vehicles, one of which slammed into the right side of the AE91, leaving a father and child injured. The driver of the Tacoma then lost control and collided with the Avensis that was behind the AE91.
The badly damaged Avensis car which was being driven by a 21-year-old man ended up in the nearby trench. The driver of the vehicle according to eyewitnesses suffered broken legs and arms since he was trapped in the vehicle when it landed in the trench. Meanwhile, this newspaper understands that the Tacoma was carrying at the time 700the driver and his girlfriend who were said to have suffered severe injuries as well. All of the injured persons were rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where they were kept up to late Wednesday night.
