Everest pummel GYO, Malteenoes thump Police

A BRILLIANT half-century opening stand by Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Akshaya Persaud led the Everest Cricket Club to a commanding 61-run win over Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO), as T20 action continued over the weekend in the Georgetown Cricket Association’s (GCA) Carib Beer first division competition.

Hosts Everest managed 148 for the loss of 9 wickets and young Chanderpaul slammed a 30-ball 49, while his opening partner Persaud hit 38. Bowling for GYO, spinner Trevon France bagged four wickets for 29.

Chasing 148, the GYO side finished on 87-7 off their allotted 20 overs. France, (25) and DeRoach (19) were the only notable scorers for GYO. Mohamed and Raymond Singh took two wickets apiece for Everest

In an earlier game, Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) registered a three-wicket win over Police Sports Club.

The Thomas Lands-based side, who won the toss, gave the lawmen first strike in which they posted 115 for the loss of 9 wickets.

Ricardo Adams (34) and Kelvin Leitch (23*) were the lead scorers for the Police  while Videsh Dhaniram (20) and Troy Benn (11) were two other batsmen who reached double figures.

Lennox Cush (2-12), Delon Dalrymple (2-25) and Orin Ford (2-7) were the main destroyers for Malteenoes.

In response, the MSC side reached 117-7 with a ball to spare thanks to Ford and Cush who put together a 64-run stand for the fourth wicket after the home side were struggling at 35 for three.

Cush (33) and Forde (24) steadied the ship after the departure of Delvon McEwen (4) and Stephen Jacobs (3) in that order.

Troy Lewis (23) was another main contributor to the Malteenoes win
