THEZara Group of Companies last Friday donated 10 desktop computers to the Information Technology Division of the Mayor and City Council (M&CC).
Town Clerk Royston King and staff were on hand to accept the donation of computers, valued at $700,000, from the company’s Certified Systems Engineer, Nardeo Singh.
Meanwhile, the company has indicated its willingness to assist in rectifying the information technology issues at the M&CC.
The Zara Group of Companies will also assist the municipality to build a data base that would be able to track property owners’ information, and property owners would be able to access information about their rates online.
The company specialises in providing information technology assistance to various organisations such as the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG) and the Guyana Police Force (GPF).
During the handing-over ceremony, the town clerk welcomed the gifts with gratitude and said that he would look forward to further collaboration with the company.
King added that these computers would help to satisfy some of the information technology needs of the City Council. He also encouraged other organisations to emulate the gesture by the Zara Group.
The Zara Company was started in New York by George Subhraj some 30 years ago. The company was mainly involved in real estate business and managing apartment buildings.
According to Subhraj, the Guyana linkage came about because of the need to give back to the country of his birth.
