THE 8th annual Taxidermy Children’s Camp at the Guyana National Museum came to an end yesterday with a simple graduation ceremony. The participants of the camp, which was held in two phases, saw 46 children being presented with certificates of participation. Two of them were also presented with tokens of appreciation for their outstanding performance. They were Kamilah Lambert and Shakeel Edwards.
While at the Museum, Minister within the Ministry of Education, Nicolette Henry commended the participants for attending the camp, and spoke at length with them about their experiences while in training.
The taxidermy camp was created to enlighten and educate students about museums and Guyana’s wildlife, and to establish an awareness of the present environmental issues regarding monuments, heritage and archival records.
In addition, the camp allows participants to be able to create simple museum exhibits, and learn the preservation techniques in taxidermy.
This year’s camp was held in collaboration with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Iwokrama, The National Trust, The National Archives, the University of Guyana’s Biodiversity Centre and the Environmental Protection Agency. (GINA)
