RAPE accused Deochand Ramlall, whose trial for allegedly raping a 12-year-old child on March 21, 2013 at Foulis, East Coast, Demerara is taking place in camera, failed to attend the final day of his trial at the Demerara Assizes yesterday.

Judge Madame Jo-Ann Barlow had set aside yesterday for summing up the evidence to the jury.

At the beginning of the trial, the accused had pleaded not guilty. Following the judge’s summing-up, the jury is expected to consider the evidence and return with a verdict.

The accused, who is on bail, failed to turn up at court yesterday, and the police were reportedly sent at his home to enquire what had happened to him.

In the meantime, the judge has adjourned further hearing of the matter to Friday, August 21. (George Barclay)
