Mother of AFC chairman dies following accident

THE Government was yesterday plunged into a state of mourning at news of the death of Mrs Christobel Deane-Hughes, mother of prominent Lawyer and Alliance For Change (AFC) Chairman, Nigel Hughes.Director of Public Information (DPI), Imran Khan yesterday confirmed that Mrs. Hughes, said to be in her 80s, died earlier in the day at a city hospital as a result of injuries she sustained during a two-vehicle smash-up on Saturday night on Middleton Street, Campbellville.

He said that Mrs. Hughes was at the time being chauferred by her son, Stuart, when another vehicle slammed into theirs, resulting in mother and son being injured.

They were both taken to an unnamed city hospital, but Mrs. Hughes died of her injuries, while her son was treated and sent away.

According to reports, the Hugheses were on their way home when the accident occurred. The man at the wheel of the other vehicle was reportedly intoxicated.
