VETERAN golfer Hilbert Shields claimed best gross and best net prizes to cart off the top honour in the Lusignan Golf Club (LGC)-sponsored tournament on Saturday. Scattered showers had threatened the tournament which eventually teed off late. But Shields was in fine form taking the day with a best gross of 84 and 1st Best Net 68 off a handicap of 18.
Bholawram Deo finished with the second Best Net of 72 off a handicap of 19 while Archbishop Dr Philbert London finished third with a Net 74, off a handicap of 26.
Speaking after the win, Shields said, “I won because of the good hearty company in which I played, (comprising Messrs Clifford Reis, and Ramesh Dookhoo and Archbishop Dr Philbert London) and the incentives and inspiration I received from Mr Reis.”
Reis achieved the Nearest to the Pin award of the day.
Captain Chatterpaul Deo was delighted at the turnout and camaraderie amongst the players, and looks forward to keen and competitive play at the next tournament scheduled for Saturday, August 22.
