THE Guyana chapter of Tang Soo Do International successfully completed its Summer Martial Arts Training Programme under the theme “I Believe I Can Make It” on Friday with several students graduating. The camp, which commenced on August 13, was aimed at getting students ranging from ages 3 to 15 involved in martial arts in an effort to meaningfully occupy their time..
The participants studied the art of Tang Soo Do – Practical and Theory, Self Defence, Sparring and Gymnastics during the one-month camp.
Speaking at the conclusion of the camp, Sensei Roland Eudoxie, who was the facilitator indicated, “It was a success based on the fact that we were able to have more kids coming in and wanting to learn the discipline of martial arts and more so adding an extra meaningful activity in their lives throughout the summer break.”
Meanwhile, the body is moving apace with plans for its North American Federation of Martial Arts (NAFMA) competition set for November 20 & 21, at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH).
The two-day family event will feature teams from Suriname, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, St Lucia, Guadeloupe, Aruba and the United States and Canada.
On the first evening, according to Sensei Eudoxie, there will be a seminar and dinner with guests-of-honour Azim Rizk, the Black and Green Power Ranger in the Power Rangers Super Megaforce on Nickelodeon and Master Jose Torres.
Day two will feature competition at the CASH where the various teams will compete.
The event has gained support from the National Sport Commission, COPA Airlines, Farfan and Mendes, Banks DIH Ltd, Pegasus Hotel Guyana, Pro Graphics, HFD Mining Supplies, POPEYES and Trophy Stall. (Stephan Sookram)
