The escaped prisoners were identified as 23-year-old Ravindra Samaroo also known as Ravi and Lennox Patterson also known as ‘Gold Teeth.’
Samaroo prior to being remanded to prison resided at Ogleton Dam Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, and was remanded to prison in May of this year. Patterson on the other hand was remanded in August of this year, but prior to him being remanded resided at Lot 369 Sisters Village, East Bank Berbice.
Sources out of New Amsterdam told this publication that the men after removing several boards from the northern wall of the prison building from their cell tied together three bed sheets and used those to climb 50 feet down from the building into the yard.
Once in the yard the men made their way to the watchtowers of the prison compound, which is used to look over the entire compound of the facility. Once there too, the men used them to mount themselves onto the fence of the prison, jumped over the fence and made good their escape.
It was when they were about to jump from the fence that a female security guard who was manning the cameras of the facility from a monitor noticed the men in their bid to flee and raised an alarm; but by that time the men were over the fence and on their way to freedom.
The police were immediately informed and together they formed a joint operation as they searched for the men, also visiting their homes to ensure that they were not there.
Their relatives were made aware that they had escaped from the prison and the family members were instructed by the police to ensure that they contact the relevant authorities should the men show up, as it is a criminal offence for them to accommodate the men who are now wanted by the law.
