Eccles hit-and-run driver identified

THE police have reported that around 23:15hrs on August 12, 2015, Orwin Whittington, 35, of Alberttown, Georgetown, and pillion rider Latoya Thompson, 27, of Craig Village, EBD, were on a motorcycle when they collided with a motor vehicle that failed to stop at the traffic lights at Eccles, EBD. The driver of the motor vehicle fled the scene.Whittington and Thompson received injuries and were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where the pillion rider was pronounced dead on arrival and the motorcyclist was admitted.

The Traffic Chief said that the police know where the hit-and-run driver resides and they will soon take him into custody for questioning, based on information received.

In a separate road accident at about 00:15hrs on August 14, 2015, unlicensed driver Dedesh Mohabir, 15, of Sparta, Essequibo Coast, was driving a motor car along the main road at Lima, Essequibo Coast, when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a fence.

Dedesh Mohabir and Rupesh Jado, 19, of Reliance, Essequibo Coast, who was also in the vehicle, were taken to the Suddie Hospital, Essequibo, where they both succumbed to their injuries.

Investigations are in progress.
