Wanna-be carjacker hospitalised after hot police pursuit in city

THE police have reported that at about 20:30 hrs on Monday, August 10, taxi driver Lawrence Singh was hired by a man at a taxi base at Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara, to be taken to McDoom, East Bank Demerara.

However, at Mc Doom, another man, who was armed with a firearm, held up Lawrence Singh, and the two men took away Singh’s motor vehicle, $10,000 in cash and a cell phone.

During the robbery, Lawrence Singh raised an alarm to which residents of the community responded, and the armed man escaped while his accomplice drove away with Singh’s motor car.

The victim gave chase in another vehicle, and the police also responded to the report they had received. A hot pursuit ensued, during which the perpetrator was apprehended after he collided with another motor vehicle along Sheriff Street in Georgetown.

The perpetrator received minor injuries and is currently under guard at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) (M. Outridge)
