Cargo vessel sinks but crew members rescued

THREE men were rescued on Sunday and a fourth on Monday after the cargo vessel they were travelling in sank off the coast of Guyana when it capsized.According to a release from the Maritime Administration Department of the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, the vessel “Captain Safie” only had four crewmen onboard at the time of the tragedy.
Sometime between Saturday and Sunday the vessel sank in the Waini River and the first three crewmembers were rescued while the fourth one who was reportedly thought to have drowned was found alive on Monday, according to Director of Maritime Safety, Steven Thomas.
The police had put out a statement identifying the fourth crewmember as 54-year- old Kitty resident, Guy Roach, who was still missing and feared drowned.
However, Roach was rescued by fishing boats which were nearby at the time. The Guyana Chronicle has not been able to secure the names of the other three crewmembers nor information on whether the vessel was properly certified and insured.
