15th Annual P&P Insurance Brokers 11-race programme set for Saturday

THE 15th Annual P&P Insurance Brokers and Consultants 11-race cycle programme is set for Saturday around the inner circuit of the National Park beginning at 09:00hrs.The programme, which is being organised by national cycle coach Hassan Mohamed, will see seniors, juniors, juveniles, veterans and BMX cyclists battle for honours in the 11 events carded for the day.
The feature event will bring together schoolboys, novices and invitational riders over a distance of 35 laps and defending champion Stephano Husbands, who returned one hour 16 minutes 25.86 seconds in winning the race last year, will have his work cut out this year, as several of the country’s top cyclists have reached their peak and will be vying for top honours.
The likes of Team Evolution’s Orville Hinds, Marlon `Fishy’ Williams, Michael Anthony and Akeem Wilkinson, coupled with Team Coco’s Raynauth Jeffrey and others, will see Husbands’ work cut out.
The juveniles’ 10-lap race was won last year by Alonzo Ambrose in a time of 21 minutes 57 seconds and he will be hoping for a repeat performance, but should Raphael Leung contest this race, Ambrose will have to be wary of him.
The defending champion of the five-lap race for veterans Under-50 is Junior Niles who clocked 12 minutes 28.5 seconds last year to win the race, but like Ambrose, Niles will have to be wary of Linden Blackman, Stephen Fernandes, Kennard Lovell and Eon `Dumb Boy’ Jackson.
Other races on the day’s card include a five-lap race for veterans Over-50, another five-lap for veterans Over-60; a three-lap race for BMX boys and girls 12-14 years; a two-lap race for BMX boys 6-9 years and a three-lap race for BMX boys 9-12 years.
A representative of P&P Insurance Brokers and Consultants is expected to witness the day’s activity as well as present prizes to the respective winners.
