GUYANA’S Mohamad ‘Shairaz’ Roshandin has rocketed upward in the Caribbean Motor Racing Association’s (CMRA) 2015 Championship standings for Group 2. The driver who is also the vice-president of the club had a solid showing last weekend in the second leg of the Championship at Wallerfield in Trinidad and Tobago. He amassed a total of 61 points to sit third in the standings. Speaking after picking up the Champion Driver for the Group 2 division on Sunday, he explained to Chronicle Sport that he was always intent on picking up wins.
“We came to do well and that’s all. As a motor racer, every time you get in the car, you get in the car to win. Sometimes you have competition which is better than you but today (Sunday), even though we had cars that were faster than ours, we managed to walk away with the champion driver trophy.”
He remained steadfast that the day’s accomplishment was due to the reliability of the car, something he says his brother and mechanic was responsible for.
“My brother is my mechanic, my team: everything. Without him and the work of family, I can’t get the car to be reliable as it is.” Ahead of Roshandin in the standings are Trinidad’s Marc Gill (96 points) and Jamaica’s Jordan Powell (75 points).
