OFFICIALS of OPCO (Guyana) Inc., the local franchise for the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) met with newly-appointed Minister of Sport Dr Nicollette Henry to update her on plans for the Guyana leg of the 2015 Hero CPLt20 cricket tournament.The Guyana Amazon Warriors will play four matches at the Guyana National Stadium at Providence, East Bank Demerara next month.
The Guyana Amazon Warriors will square off against Jamaica Tallawahs on July 15 then take on St Lucia Zouks on July 17, while on July 18 they battle Barbados Tridents before playing Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel on July 21.
Kirk Douglas, Events Operations Officer of OPCO (Guyana) Inc. who led the delegation briefed Dr Henry on Guyana’s preparation to host the matches.
Minister Henry said she was extremely pleased to be updated on Guyana’s preparation and indicated that her ministry and other government agencies will provide assistance to ensure smooth running of the event.
Also present at the meeting held at the Minister’s office on Main Street were Permanent Secretary Alfred King, Mark Sookhai – Ticketing and Accreditation manager, Sabrina Panday – Stadium Staff coordinator, Reon King – Cricket Operations manager, Troy Peters – Media officer and George Vyphuis – Security and Safety manager.
The Guyana Amazon Warriors, last year’s runners-up will square off with 2014 champions Barbados Tridents in the 2015 tournament opener today at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.
