ASSISTANT Police Commissioner (ACP) Brian Joseph yesterday officially took over the helm of the Presidential Guard Service, which is responsible for the security detail of the President and Prime Minister.Mr Joseph who, prior to 1994 had provided protection for Presidents Forbes Burnham, Desmond Hoyte and Cheddi Jagan respectively, will be replacing Mr Rohan Singh. Serving as the ‘B’ Division Commander for some time following a transfer from the Traffic Department, Joseph spent most of the day going through the handover/takeover process with Singh.
Immediately after his swearing in on Saturday, President Granger held a meeting with Head of the Guyana Defence Force, Brigadier Mark Phillips, and Commissioner of Police, Seelall Persaud.
Yesterday, ACP Brian Joseph met with Commissioner of Police Seelall Persaud and was told of his new posting, which took immediate effect.

With Joseph assuming the Head of the Presidential Guard Service, a void has been created in the hierarchy of the GPF, since Divisions A, B and C are usually controlled by Assistant Commissioners of Police.

Some switches have already taken place in the management team of the GPF, with Wendell Blanhum being named Crime Chief, his former boss, Leslie James, being posted to another department of the Force. (Leroy Smith)
