A SURINAME man, who allegedly entered Guyana illegally, was yesterday remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-BeharryChris Gobin of Suriname pleaded not guilty to the charge, speaking through an interpreter. It was stated that on April 24 at Springlands, Corentyne, Berbice, he entered Guyana by sea and disembarked without presenting himself to an immigration officer.
The interpreter explained that several attempts were made to contact the defendant’s relative but without success.
Police Prosecutor Bharrat Mangru objected to bail, contending that Gobin is a possible flight risk since he has no ties to Guyana.
The prosecution’s objection was upheld and the matter was transferred to the Springlands Magistrate’s Court for May 8.
