PHILADELPHIA, United States (CMC) – Jamaica’s female relay teams failed to make a clean sweep but outclassed their American rivals in the USA vs the World relay series at the Penn Relays here on Saturday.The 4x400m team of Christine Day, Patricia Hall, Anastacia Leroy and Stephenie-Ann McPherson sped to victory in a world-leading 3 minutes 26.58 seconds.
They posted an easy win over the USA team anchored by Dee Dee Trotter (3:28.42 minutes) and third-placed Australia (3:32.31 minutes).
Jamaica’s sprint quartet of Kerron Stewart, Sherone Simpson, Schillonie Calvert and Natasha Morrison clocked 43.70 seconds to beat the USA (43.79 seconds), with Nigeria third in (43.22 seconds) in the 4 x 100m event.
“I just came out here to do what I had to do and give my team a good start,” said Stewart.
“I still think I have more work to do and I am looking forward to the remainder of the season”.
However, the Jamaican women just missed a third win, beaten on the line in the 4x200m by one seven thousandths of a second after clocking the same 1 minute 31.98 seconds as the USA.
The members of the team were Shericka Williams, Simpson, Calvert and Natasha Morrison.
The Jamaican female sprinters also used their participation in the Penn Relays as a warm-up for next weekend’s IAAF World Relay Championships in the Bahamas.
