CRUISERWEIGHT/heavyweight Andre `Stone’ Purlette had seven fights in 1997. He won all by knockout. One of the fights occurred on April 25 in Miami, Florida.The muscled Guyanese was 17-0 when he stepped in the ring to battle American Ed Mosley. Purlette needed only three rounds to get rid of the American.

The orthodox power-puncher would suffer his first defeat five years and 15 fights later. On January 4, 2002 he was TKOed by Cuban-American Eliester Castillo in Miami, Florida. The contest was stopped at two minutes and 58 seconds of the fifth round.
In October of the previous year, Purlette TKOed Jeremy Bates to collect the vacant World Boxing Organisation/ North American Boxing Organisation (WBO/NABO) heavyweight title. The 6’ 1” Purlette stopped fighting in 2009 after 17 years in the sport.
He secured a record of 40 victories in 44 fights and has boxed 134 rounds, with a 79 percent knockout average. Purlette is now a fitness trainer in the USA.
