FIVE nonviolent prisoners from the Georgetown and Timehri prisons were released from prison through the intervention of Food for the Poor (FFTP) on Monday, March 23, 2015 in time to spend the Easter holidays with their families.
The prisoners were only informed of their release on the said day, and that FFTP had paid their fines. They were emotional in expressing their appreciation and gratitude to FFTP Florida and Guyana for the kind gesture.
Twice a year, during the Christmas and Easter seasons, FFTP negotiates the release of nonviolent prisoners who have been incarcerated due to their inability to pay the requisite fines for committing minor offenses.
