Muslim youth body to host suicide prevention/HIV awareness seminar

THE Anna Catherina Muslim Youth Organization (ACMYO), youth arm of the Anna Catherina Islamic Complex, will host a Suicide Prevention/HIV Awareness Seminar on Friday, May 1, 2015 from 13:00hrs in the Computer Resource Center at the Anna Catherina Islamic Complex.The seminar is one of many such activities scheduled for the rest of the year by the Executive of ACMYO on important issues of tremendous importance to young people.

President of ACMYO, Mohamed Khan stated that the organization recently took a decision to step up its role as the youth arm to the most important Muslim institution in Guyana and in keeping with the mandate given by its parent body. ACMYO will open its activities to both Muslims and non-Muslims.
Persons interested in attending the seminar can contact Mohamed Khan on 622-7047 or Nazim Hussain on 652-9020 for registration. Limited space is available for the seminar.
Sister Theresa Roopnauth, Counsellor/Socio-Psychologist from the Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) Crossroads Guyana and Nazim Hussain from Artistes in Direct support (AIDS) will be the main facilitators for the seminar.
Topics to be discussed at the seminar will include: ‘Suicide as a public health problem’, ‘Causes and treatments for suicide’, ‘Formulating plans for suicide prevention, intervention and post-vention programmes’, ‘The role of young people in the prevention of HIV’, ‘Tackling stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV/Aids’, etc.
ACMYO will also be organising leadership seminars throughout Guyana.
