facilities.

According to Chand,“The motor lorry was taking about 50 sugar workers to the fields when it slid, due to the dam becoming muddy following heavy rainfall… The lorry toppled onto its side, leaving approximately 21 out of the 50 with minor injuries.”
Chand said that 18 of the workers were sent home from the hospital after receiving treatment for their injuries, but three remained for further treatment.
The GAWU head emphasised that the incident was due to the muddiness of the dam following the heavy rainfall; therefore, he advised that they should not be using that mode of transportation when there is inclement weather.
Instead, he urged that passengers’ punts should be used to transport the workers because they are safer and more suited for the rainy weather.
