Is there, currently, an Opposition Leader?

PRESIDENTIAL candidate David Granger plans to go to court to nullify the appointment of Seelall Persaud as Commissioner of Police? Good for him. The appointment is unconstitutional, because he was not consulted as Leader of the Opposition in terms of Article 211 of the Guyana Constitution. According to Granger himself, he was invited by President Ramotar to the consultation but he declined on the ground that he wanted Seelall Persaud to address his role in the recent promotion of two policemen (See Stabroek News, page 10 of the 11th May, 2015).Granger holds himself out as presidential material which expects nay, demands a modicum of reasoning. Was it not appropriate that he discuss his concern at the consultation with the President? How is he going to get Seelall Persaud to respond?

Secondly, when the House of Assembly was dissolved by the President on the urging of the Opposition, all members of the House, with the exception of the Ministers, ceased to function as such. So there is no Leader of the Opposition. But despite this, the President still invited Granger to discussion.
