Taxi driver remanded for trafficking cocaine

A TAXI driver who was recently convicted for swallowing cocaine, yesterday found himself in the same situation after he tried to traffic cocaine at the Ogle International Airport, East Coast Demerara (ECD).Terry Defreitas appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday denying that on March 4 at the Ogle Airport, he had in his possession 2.134Kilograms of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
Customs Anti-Narcotics unit (CANU) prosecutor, Oswald Massiah did not relate the details about the charge to the court; however, it is reported that Defreitas was an outgoing passenger on a LIAT flight.
The man wasallegedly busted with the cocaine that was strapped to his thigh as he was destined to traffic the drug to Barbados.
The prosecutor explained to the court that there is a recording, whereby the defendant confessed to having knowledge of the drug, while he was being questioned at CANU headquarters.
Defreitas, 22 of 40 Fifth Street, Bartica, was remanded to prison and will make his next court appearance on March 9, at the Sparendaam Court
