DEVENDRA Hansraj, who allegedly stabbed his reputed wife to death at their Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, Berbice home last month, has been charged with her unlawful death.

The charge of murder under the common law was read by newly appointed Magistrate Chalyn Artiga  at the Mibicuri Court,Black Bush Polder, on Wednesday .
Hansraj, aged  43, of Lot 17 Grant 1780 Crabwood Creek , was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which indicated that on December 18, at Crabwood Creek he murdered Mohanranie Udaraj called “Sherry.”
However, the defendant, who was unrepresented by counsel, is expected to attend the Springlands Magistrates Court on February 5, for report and fixture.
Twenty- eight –year- old  Mohanranie Udaray’s   bloodied body  was discovered after her blood dripped into the lower flat, where her landlord dwells.
Hours earlier, neighbours had reported that the couple were overheard arguing.
A post-mortem report has revealed that the mother of one died as a result of  asphyxia due  to the lack of oxygen  to the lungs.
The cause of death was recorded by Government Pathologist Dr. Vivikanand  Brijmohan , following a post-mortem at the Skeldon Public Hospital.
