Two killed in separate New year’s Day incidents in NWD and Mahdia -suspects in police custody

THE suspect in the Aracru, North West District (NWD) murder on Old Year’s Day has been arrested and is assisting the police with the investigation.

The police reported that Augustine Samuels, 52, of Aracru, NWD, was fatally stabbed around 19:30 hours last Wednesday at Aracru.

The investigation so far has revealed that Augustine Samuels and another man, who is the suspect in this matter, were imbibing at a shop when the suspect became involved in an issue with the owner of the shop.

The owner of the shop managed to escape, whereupon the suspect attacked Augustine Samuels and stabbed him about his body. Samuels was pronounced dead on arrival at the Mabaruma Hospital.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, investigations are being conducted into the death of miner, Andre Britton, 50, of 111 Miles Mahdia, Potaro, which occurred about 01:30 hrs on January 1, 2015, at Mahdia.
Police said Andre Britton had earlier confronted a man, during which the man was assaulted for throwing squibs into his yard and the man later returned and stabbed him about his body.

He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Mahdia hospital.

The suspect has been arrested and is in police custody assisting with the investigation.
