Pensioner dies in inferno on Corentyne

THE life of an 80-year-old woman ended tragically on Wednesday (Christmas Eve Day) when she was burnt to death in a fire which engulfed her home.According to reports, the elderly woman, Norma Moore, resided in a two-storeyed wood and concrete building at Manchester Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice. She shared the premises with one Allison Garrick, 18, who was said to be her care-giver.
Information revealed that around 14:00 hrs, the young woman left the house to visit her parents at Kildonan. Around 15:20 hrs, residents were alerted to fire emanating from the house and efforts to save the elderly woman proved futile.
A fire tender from the Rose Hall Fire Station responded to the scene but was unable to save the building.
The woman’s remains were subsequently recovered.
Investigations are continuing.
