Prime Minister Hinds may have a point

YOUR article on Prime Minister Samuel Hinds (Chronicle, 12/15/2014) suggesting that if GPL consumers did not like its service, they can produce their own, at first glance, looks like a just disingenuous, disrespectful and arrogant comment to GPL consumers, on what is a major problem in Guyana – affordable electricity. But as an environmentalist, I reasoned that Prime Minister Hinds may very well have a valid point.

China has produced very cheap single-family organic digesters, using waste from humans, animals and plants, to produce ethane (cooking/lighting gas), in rural areas where electricity in unavailable.
Solar panels are now being produced at a much cheaper cost. City blocks could form associations where all homes could have solar panels, possibly financed by banks with the Government subsidizing the loans. All electricity generated goes to a central grid and distributed according to the amount of electricity by each building. This process could be supplemented by environmentally sound electrical generators.
There are more economical systems out there which needs to be investigated. Guyana has a diamond field of organic matter, from weeds in the drains and gutters to human waste, which can be utilised economically. Thank you.
