MINISTER of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett on Friday met with the United Nation’s Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and held discussions that focused on continuing border issues between Guyana and Venezuela.

Their discussions focused on the continued involvement of the UN Secretary-General in the solution of the controversy which arose as a result of Venezuela’s contention that the Arbitral Award of 1899 that definitively settled the land boundary between Guyana and Venezuela is null and void, a press release stated.
Also discussed were issues pertaining to Climate Change, as well as financing for development in particular, the next Conference to be held in Ethiopia in 2015, preparations for which are being co-chaired by Guyana, in the person of Ambassador George Talbot, Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Norway, the release added.
