Young miner slapped with murder charge

A 22-year-old-gold miner of Grant Marlborough, Lower Pomeroon River was remanded to prison on Monday by Magistrate Sunil Scarce when he appeared before him at the Charity Magistrates Court to answer to a charge of murder.Reports said the miner, Levoi La Cruz called “Jaga,”was not required to plead to the indictable charge read to him by the magistrate. The charge said that on September 8th,2014, he murdered 21-year-old  Rafael Danns. According to particulars of the charge, on September 8th, 2014, around 22:15 hrs, Danns and La Cruz were drinking at a rum shop at Grant Marlborough, Lower Pomeroon River, when an argument erupted between them. La Cruz then armed himself with a knife and dealt one stab to the left side of Danns’s stomach. Danns was rushed to the Charity hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
La Cruz was arrested three days later at his uncle’s residence at Lillydale, also in the Lower Pomeroon River.
He is expected to make another appearance at the Charity Magistrates Court on October 13th.
