Twenty- year- old Andrew Johnson, of Lot 35 – 65 Postal Housing Scheme, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was granted bail totalling $600,000 after being charged with causing death by dangerous driving.The accused, appearing at the Whim Magistrates Court on Wednesday before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh, where he was not required to plead to the charge.
It is alleged that on September 14, 2014, at Letter Kenny Village, Corentyne, he drove his motor car PMM 3080 in a dangerous manner, thereby causing the death of Reena Devi Singh known as Asha Ashmanie.
Reports reveal that Reena Singh, had just exited a mini- bus, and was crossing the Letter Kenny Public Road, when a car reportedly driven by the defendant struck her, resulting in her death.
The injured woman was taken to the Port Mourant Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
A post-mortem subsequently revealed that Singh died as a result of multiple injuries.
The matter is fixed for hearing on October 8.
