Alliance For Change [AFC] Councillor Mr. Naithram, walked out of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) statutory meeting on Tuesday, while PPP/C Councillor Rosaline Thompson was reading a report on development that is occurring at Lima Sands through a Government CDC group.
Naithram was severely criticised by PPP/C Councillors at the meeting for allegedly stripping naked on the Reliance public road in full view of the public, which included women and children during a rice farmers’ protest.
The Opposition Councillor, who was obviously much embarrassed by the comments made by the PPP/C Councillors on his lawless behaviour on the public road, seized the opportunity to walk out of the meeting to avoid further criticism from the PPP/C Councillors. As Councillor Thompson read her report, the AFC Councillor stood up and told the Chairman Mr. Parmanand Persaud, that the report being presented by the Councillor is not from the sub-committee of the Regional Democratic Council. However, the Chairman said nothing was wrong with the report. He ordered the AFC Councillor to take his seat and Councillor Thompson to proceed with reading the report. However, the AFC Councillor stood up again, collected his documents from the desk and cap and walked out the meeting saying he could not listen to nonsense.
As the AFC Councillor left the meeting, Councillor Wazir Latiff of the A Partnership for National Unity(APNU) stood up and said that he didn’t see any reason why PPP/C Councillor Ms Thompson should not report on development that is taking place in her community under the CDC. He said she is also the chairman of that group.
Regional Chairman Mr. Parmanand Persaud said every Councillor has a right to report on development works that are taking place in their communities or Region.
