Bartica IMC sponsors community drainage de-silting works
THE Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Neighbourhood Democratic Council of Bartica has commenced a drainage de-silting exercise in the community as a commitment to its citizens in keeping with its caretaker obligations.

This was confirmed by Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Bartica Neighbourhood IMC, Mr. Sherwin Downer who underscored the commitment of the NDC to the residents. “This IMC-sponsored initiative is yet another testimony of the NDC’s willingness to keep clean and maintain Bartica and its surroundings,” he said.
The PRO noted that if Barticians continue to hold to their obligations of paying rates and taxes, then the NDC will continue to deliver on its obligations to provide these services for the comfort of the citizens.
The NDC recently procured a mini-excavator which, according to Downer, was a loan to the NDC from a member of the business community, on condition that the NDC will maintain the equipment and provide the manpower for its operation.
De-silting works commenced last Thursday, thus far at 1st Avenue and 9th Street, Bartica and should be completed by year-end.
Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Mr. Norman Whittaker while on site in Bartica, viewed the works which were conducted by the IMC and commended the local government body for the services they are providing for the residents of Bartica.
At a meeting with the NDC Chairman, Mr. Ovid Benjamin on Friday, Minister Whittaker explained NDC’s have previously been found guilty of utilising rates collected from citizens “to meet their own operational expenses.”
He added that while this is not the case with the Bartica NDC, it is commendable that residents can see their tax payer dollars at work.
