Mocha earn first point; Warriors upset Soesdyke
MOCHA Champs finally recorded their first point of the Stag Beer / East bank Football Association (EBFA) when they drew 1-1 with Herstelling Football Club in the feature game yesterday, when second round action continued at the Grove Playfield.
It was their 10th game of the league for the Mocha boys who continue to show resilience despite their not too good showing on the points table. But they have come to the game with a renewed focus in this second and final round and can only get better going forward.
Mocha, who lost to the inform KuruKururu Warriors 2-3 the previous week were not in a mood to continue their winless streak and were dominant against the party crashers, Herstelling who took the lead with a stinging shot off the boot of dapper Under-17 player, Ricky Debydial in the 23rd minute.
Debydial, a nippy forward/midfield player was always nagging at the Mocha defense; his goa ahead goal was fired in just outside the box with flashing speed that hit the cross bar dipped down over the line and entered play again.
Mocha’s goalie Nicholas Adams did catch the ball on its way out and for a moment it looked like if it was not a goal but the Assistant RefereeTyrell consulted with Referee Squires who then blew his whistle and signaled to the centre of the field.
Not to be outdone, Mocha responded almost immediately, the alert Sherwin Fordyce pounced on a loose ball from Herstelling just inside their half and worked his way past two opposing players before slotting the ball past goalkeeper Quazim Yusuf in the 25th minute. Herstelling 1 Mocha Champs 1.
There was no letting up by either team for the remainder of the match and while creating some chanches at both ends, no more goals materialized.
There was no change son the table for neither of the teams despite Mocha recording their first point, they remain in 8th place with Herstelling 6th with 8 points.
KuruKururu Warriors recorded their second win in as many matches with another hard fought victory, this time they upstaged second placed Soesdyke Falcons 2-1.
Falcons it was that took the lead in the 23rd minute when Colin Mc Lean found the back of the nets. That advantage would last until the 30th minute when Cordell Johnson of KK Warriors netted his second goal in as many matches to even things up.
The combination of Johnson and Rakesh Haimnauth did deliver for the Warriors against Mocha one week before and they did the same yesterday. Haimnauth drilled the go ahead goal in the 41st minute and that turned out to be the winning goal of the match.
KK Warriors moved to 16 points and still remain in 5th place while Soesdyle Falcons still occupy the second place behind leaders Grove Hi Tech (24 points) with 21 points. It was also the 10th game for both teams.
Matches will continue next Sunday at the same venue.
