AS this commentary is being prepared, a three-day ceasefire has been announced regarding Gaza hostilities between Israel and Palestine (HAMAS) brokered by Egypt.Concerned fingers are being kept crossed in the hope that the cessation of fighting will persist and concomitantly will promote the desire to expand the three days to a situation that will be mutually effective for the foreseeable future.
It is generally being aired that in this particular war there will be no winner or loser, the ceasefire will permit crucial humanitarian efforts towards achieving medical, housing, feeding equilibrium amongst the several thousands of displaced victims of the hostilities in Gaza.
The need is grave and of emergency status to avoid unimaginable hardships amongst the desperate sufferers, including children of all ages.
Despite all the attendant perpetual turmoil that exists between Israelis and Palestinians, this commentator is of the view that the biblical historical implications have over the years been studiously avoided by most reviews in the confrontation, promoting the idea that the answers to the problem can be found in the scriptures.
This I leave to the theologians, but comparative recent history lend support to the Palestinian argument that the Israelis are occupying lands rightly belonging to them (Palestinian) thus creating sustained animosity throughout the long history of Israeli occupation of the land/territory which the Palestinians verily believe and regard as their rightfully owned homeland.
The agonizing topic of the credentials of the Palestinian claim has over the long years been seldom discussed and this commentator views the obvious pathetic appeal for peace between the two antagonists as comprehensively lacking in meaningful input.
Any appeal for peace without identifying the source of the problem is simply empty whimpering which is certainly shameful.
The call by CARICOM Heads to stop the fighting is a typical example of futile fluttering.
