A MINIBUS driver (no address given) was yesterday slapped with a causing death charge at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court after an accident with a 67-year-old pedal cyclist on Carifesta Avenue.
Sukhraj Permaul, 26, appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan and was not required to plead to the indictable charge. He was placed on $800,000 bail until September 11 and he will make his next appearance before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
According to particulars of the matter, on August 2 at Carifesta Avenue, Georgetown, he drove minibus BNN 6492 in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of Roy Albert Mendonca.
Permaul was represented by attorney-at-law, Ms. Omeyana Hamilton, who requested bail in a reasonable sum for her client.
However, Police Prosecutor Dinero Jones did not oppose bail but requested that the accused post a substantial amount of surety.
