Is Deputy Mayor Chase-Green affected by selective memories lapses?

IT APPEARS that Deputy Mayor Patricia Chase-Green is affected by convenient memory lapses and prone to uncontrollable outbursts similar to her new sidekick and namesake, Mayor Green.

Old Kai had high hopes for Mrs. Patricia Chase-Green when he heard she was elected to the Deputy-Mayor position of the Georgetown City Council; but since then, all the optimism has been dissipated. The outlandish statements emanating from Mrs Chase-Green, some of which directly contradict her past positions on issues,  does not serve to instill a great deal of confidence in her ability to motivate the lethargic Council to take a more proactive approach in managing the affairs of the nation’s capital city.
Case in point: Madame Deputy Mayor was part of a City Hall press conference in early June, 2014, and went on a rant in which she levelled a number of allegations at the PPP/C Government and the Minister of Local Government, Norman Whittaker.
One of her concerns was that the minister should not engage with employees of the Council in efforts to improve the Capital City without the Council’s permission, which she described as “absurd and totally disrespectful”.
When consideration is taken that the minister recently visited the Council, after permission was granted to interact with the councillors in an effort to address their concerns, but he was completely ignored and forced to leave, it is becoming more apparent that the Opposition-dominated Council is stonewalling every effort by the Government to work with the M&CC for the benefit of citizens.
But back to Mrs. Chase-Green, as she was quoted as saying that “I do not know what the minister is trying to do…but the officers are not being paid by the Minister of Local Government, but by the Council…The Government has never bailed out this Council.”
Her current contentions that “the Government has never bailed out the council” runs counter to what transpired at a statutory meeting of the Council in September 2011, chaired by her predecessor, the late Robert Williams, during which Councilor Junior Garrett lamented the fact that the cash-strapped Council had apparently become a loan agency to certain senior members, as he was quoted as saying “as soon as the Government bails out the M&CC, senior officers spring up instantly to access loans and advances from the treasury.”
Mrs. Patricia-Chase Green was present at the very meeting, and did not dispute Mr. Garrett contentions, but rather indicated that “…advances can only be made in dire situations which the Council had agreed, on such as educational purposes, funeral and medical expenses…”
However, today she finds it convenient to attack the PPP/C Government, accusing it of always trying to undermine the M&CC by starving it of resources and interfering with the internal management structure of the Council, when in actual fact it is no other than her current sidekick, Mayor Hamilton Green, who has been guilty of such transgressions in the past.
Old Kai will help to reboot Mrs. Chase-Green memory to the period when she functioned as Chairperson of the Social Development Committee, more specifically, April 2000, when during a statutory meeting at City Hall, she had cause to accuse Mayor Hamilton Green of usurping her functions right before her very eyes, thereby hindering her from performing her elected duties during a closed door meeting he had convened.
Similar to the character Dr. Evil in the Austin Power movies, Mayor Green was quoted as exclaiming “You are insolent…” in reference to the contentions of Chase-Green.
However, maybe Mayor Green was on to something, as back to that September 2011 statutory meeting, where the then Town Clerk Yonette Pluck had claimed that she felt ‘threatened’ by remarks coming from Mrs. Chase-Green.
The source of concern were the minutes of the previous meeting not being available and Ms Pluck explained that the young woman the Council was seeking to recruit as the official recording clerk did not show up for her duties, which caused the lax in further documentation, while she added that “…the office of the Town Clerk has few members of staff contrary to what people may say, over the past five years.”
In response, our current Deputy Mayor is quoted as bellowing, “Apparently, Town Clerk got a problem this afternoon. The tone of her voice is tantamount to insubordination…If the Town Clerk wants to battle with me today; it’s not going to be nice. Trust me, this afternoon it’s not going to be nice.”
Are we still wondering why the City is in the state it currently is?
What this article further illustrates is that at tax payers’ expense, rather than dealing with the issues which affect our people in Georgetown, the Opposition dominated council has been busy focusing on personalities, with an ingrained fighting and ‘cock of the rock’ mentality.
Strenuous attempts are being made to whitewash over all these shortcomings and glaring incompetence, by laying the blame for the City at the doorsteps of the Government. It will not work, as Old Kai will continue to expose them.
