ARMED bandits on Sunday evening made off with several hundred thousand dollars in cash after they robbed the Energy-Plus Gas Station at Chateau Margot, East Coast Demerara just after 23.00 hrs.Residents told the Guyana Chronicle that they heard shots coming from the gas station and the police were immediately informed.
According to the reports, the bandits who invaded the gas station held up the pump attendants and robbed them of the cash they had in their possession, representing sales for the night.
The men then fired several shots into the air while making their escape to scare off anyone who dared to pursue them. No one was injured in the incident.
Monday morning a police source confirmed that the robbery did occur and said that investigators have been able to recover several spent shells from the scene.
Meanwhile yesterday a police source at the Cove and John Police Station told this newspaper that the men who invaded the business were not masked but showed up at the gas station with a gun and cutlass. The police source said that three men carried out the act.
However despite the recovery of spent shells at the crime scene by investigators, the senior police officer said that he was not aware of any shells being recovered from the scene and also indicated that there were no leads being followed. No arrests have been made even as the operators are counting their losses.
