THIRTY-FIVE-year-old Ricky Ram Deokanand of Enterprise Squatting Area, East Coast Demerara has been warded at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) with multiple injuries after he was struck down by a canter on the Non Pareil Public Road, ECD last Friday evening.
The father of two sustained serious injuries to his head and right shoulder, besides other abrasions to his right arm, a fractured left leg, and a deep puncture to the left ankle.
He recalled that at around 17:30hrs on the evening in question, he was riding through Non Pareil on his way home in surroundings that were already becoming dark when he spotted the canter approaching him from the opposite direction.
“But the truck was driving really fast, so it knocked me off my bicycle; and I ended up flush on the roadside (with) my bike (headed) in another direction.”
He said he lost consciousness, but the driver of the canter placed him in his vehicle and rushed him to the Accident and Emergency (A&E) Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH). En route to hospital he regained consciousness, and asked the driver’s wife to telephone his wife, Amrita, to inform her about his predicament.
His family hastened to the hospital, while the canter was impounded at the Vigilance Police Station, and the diver was detained for questioning.
