Brothers allegedly assault man, leave him for dead

TWENTY-SEVEN-year-old Richard Atkinslow of Bartica, Region Seven, remains an in-patient at the Male Surgical Ward of the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) with both his legs and right arm in cast, two weeks after sustaining multiple wounds about his body, allegedly inflicted by two brothers at Bartica.

He contends that the wounds have now become infected because they had been left exposed to germs as he lay helpless and bleeding on the ground.

Atkinslow recalled that the altercation between himself and the brothers started over his going to their home to retrieve ‘something’ he had given them to keep for him. He said that the brothers refused to give up the item, and instead chased him out of their yard.

He said he retaliated, and the two proceeded to beat and chop him about the body. He collapsed and lay helpless on the ground, bleeding profusely for more than three hours, while the men completely ignored him throughout that time. The wounds probably became infected during that time.

Eventually, police at Bartica learnt about the attack and turned up at the scene. They secured the services of a land cruiser and took him to the Bartica Public Hospital, where he was first cleaned up and stabilized before being transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital about one hour later.
