VESS and BHS to contest today’s final

FOLLOWING lukewarm semi-final encounters at the Scott’s School ground yesterday afternoon, Vryman’s Erven Secondary School (VESS) and Berbice High School (BHS) booked their respective places in the final of the second annual Patrick ‘Patto’ April Memorial football final in New Amsterdam.

In the first semifinal, VESS edged the Berbice Educational Institute 1-0, after a sluggish display by both teams, which saw the first half of that match end 0-0, leaving many speculating that the game would have been decided on the basis of penalty kicks. But Borris Griffith scored the game’s lone goal in the 47th minute.
In the second match, the New Amsterdam Multilateral School (NAMS) failed to display the tenacity which was demonstrated during their 3-2 defeat, inflicted on Tutorial Academy Secondary School on Tuesday.
In the absence of their main striker, Jamal Butts, who was expelled from the competition after being shown a red card, the NAMS outfit played a casual game which allowed the BHS lads to relax, and after a 0-0 first half, Derick Taylor broke the silence of the game by booting one past the NAMS custodian in the 40th minute, as his team held the advantage until the final whistle blew.
The final will be contested this afternoon at the same venue from 16:00hrs, with trophies and medals up for grabs.
